QUESTIONS
- Is my file uploaded anywhere?
- No. The STEP file is read locally through the browser's File API and converted to a 3D mesh by a WebAssembly module running on your own machine. No copy reaches AMG or any third party, and nothing is kept between visits.
- Which formats are supported?
- STEP files with a .step or .stp extension, in the AP203 and AP214 schemas that CAD systems export by default. IGES, STL, Parasolid and native CATIA or NX files are not read by this viewer.
- Why does the first file take a few seconds?
- The first time you open a file, your browser downloads the geometry kernel (about 10 MB). It is then cached, so every file after that opens straight away.
- What do the numbers below the viewport mean?
- Parts is the number of separate solids in the file, Triangles the size of the tessellated mesh, and the bounding box the model's overall dimensions in the file's own units — millimetres in most mechanical STEP exports.
